Steubenville, located in the South Eastern section of Ohio, was founded in 1797. Steubenville received its name from Fort Steuben, constructed to protect surveyors from the Indians. Steubenville has been home to various industries including coal mining, paper mills, glass factories, potteries, nail factories, and steel mills.

There are wonderful sights and sounds to take in while visiting Steubenville. Now a museum, Fort Steuben offers a unique experience into the day and the life of the 150 soldiers that resided there and hosts a number of historical programs throughout the year. The area surrounding the Fort offers an amazing view of the Ohio River and the Ohio Valley Steelworker Statue which honors the area’s rich history in the Steel working trade. While taking in all of the amazing sites that Steubenville has to offer, don’t forget about the sounds. Steubenville was the home of famous singer Dean Martin and the town honors him with the Dean Martin Festival each spring. Steubenville was also site to the reunion of the band “Wild Cherry” and home to the affiliates from the legendary hip hop group The Wu-Tang Clan.

If you are in Steubenville and you like sports, you must check out one of the best sports programs in the state. The Steubenville High School Big Red Football Team has consistently been one of the best Football programs in the state of Ohio. In 2005 and 2006, the Big Red obtained a perfect record of 15-0 for both seasons and won the State Championships.
