Shadyside, Ohio has a long and storied history that can be traced back to the Revolutionary War era. Post-war, many settlers traveled across the Ohio River searching for land. A surveyor by trade, David McElherren helped to establish the boundaries of what is now present-day Shadyside taking for his compensation a large parcel of land. The town obtained its name towards the end of the 19th century quite by accident after a local resident, James Leisure, hung a sign that read “Shadyside” along the tree border of his land. When the train stopped nearby Leisure’s property, the name “Shadyside” stuck.

More recently, Shadyside has made international news due to a flood in 1990. The flood occurred in the areas of Wegee Creek, Pipe Creek, and Indian Run and dropped three inches of rain in less than two hours. Devastatingly, 26 individuals lost their lives in the disaster.

While Shadyside is a relatively small city, there is plenty to do in order to have fun and stay busy. Shadyside places a major focus on its educational system.  A former school by the name of Central School has been transformed into a community center for the residents. Here people can play basketball, ice skate, or indulge in numerous social activities with peers. Shadyside is a wonderful place for modern family-oriented experience.
